Sussex businesswoman and public policy professional, Khobi Vallis, has been named Parliamentary Candidate for Brighton, Kemptown and Peacehaven.
On Saturday 6th January, Brighton, Kemptown and Peacehaven Conservatives selected a Parliamentary candidate to champion the policies that are right for the Brighton area and take the fight to Labour ahead of the next General Election. Khobi Vallis, a Sussex-based communications consultant, was selected at a special general meeting of local members.
Khobi has set out three major priorities ahead of the next General Election:
- Making our streets safer – Brighton has a growing antisocial behaviour problem that is making residents unable to enjoy their city safely. The Labour run local authorities have not updated the by-laws to grant the Police the powers they need to tackle crime on our streets. Only Conservatives are showing themselves as serious about crime, as shown by the uplift of 20,000 Police Officers we’ve delivered.
- Championing truly green policies – the Green and Labour legacy in Brighton is a list of failed initiatives that have not supported the environment. Including the lowest recycling rate in the county. Conservatives have a better record on protecting the environment with £1.6 billion in UK funding for climate projects as we call on our international partners to join us in our effort to stop and reverse deforestation, protect the natural environment, and accelerate the global transition to clean and renewable energy.
- Supporting local businesses – SMEs are the lifeblood of our coastline. In Brighton, Kemptown and Peacehaven these businesses need to be listened to, and their needs championed. Conservatives have frozen the small business multiplier, saving an average shop £1,650, and extending the Retail Hospitality and Leisure Relief which supports businesses such as shops and pubs to help regenerate our city.
Following her selection, Khobi said:
“I am extremely honoured to be selected as the next Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Brighton, Kemptown and Peacehaven.”
“Sussex is my home, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to meet local residents and hear about what they want for our local area.”
“The next general election marks a crucial turning point for our country. The Conservative government steered us through the Covid crisis and thanks to strong leadership from Rishi Sunak, inflation is falling, and the economy is growing. Now it is for the country to decide who is best placed to protect the economy, create jobs and deliver on public services.
“As we approach the next general election, I am looking forward to running a positive and respectful campaign that the people of this constituency expect and deserve.”
Welcoming Khobi’s selection, Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven Conservative Association Chairman Paul Wood said:
“We are delighted that Khobi has been adopted as our candidate for the next General Election.”
“Khobi’s experience and conservative values will be a great asset to our Association and we look forward to supporting her in the General Election campaign to be our next MP.”
“The Association was very fortunate to have a selection of great candidates from which to choose, however Khobi’s outstanding CV and impressive speech & interview had our members enthusiastically opt for her.”
